Senior Process Engineer (PSA)

Susteon has an immediate opening for a Senior Process Engineer to work on pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process research and commercialization. This position plays a key role in supporting the development of current and future work on PSA processes, equipment, and materials.

Requirements: MS or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a minimum 5 years of experience. Candidates with only BS degree who have 10 years of industrial experience will also be considered.

Company: Susteon Inc. is a technology startup in the Research Triangle Park (Raleigh-Durham area), North Carolina, which is developing and deploying low-carbon breakthrough technologies that can impact climate change. Susteon is partnering with a number of national labs, universities, and industry partners to lead R&D with the express goal of deploying these new technologies to tackle the climate change imperative.

People: Selected candidate will get the opportunity to work directly with a high-energy team including the company founders. Dr. Raghubir Gupta has more than 30 years of technology development experience and was leading the Energy Technology R&D at RTI. Mr. Shantanu Agarwal is a venture capital/ private equity professional with extensive experience in investing in energy startups and commercializing new technologies.
 
Desired Technical Skills:

  • Good understanding of chemical process design and optimization
  • Proficiency and experience in using the ASPEN/HYSYS package
  • Knowledge of one or more PSA technologies for air separation, gas processing and hydrogen purification including their equipment design and operations
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Skills in engineering review for PSA systems including P&IDs, HAZOPs, and startup
  • Review, analyze and provide feedback on PSA unit operating data.
  • Strong technical background in separations with good understanding of adsorption, cryogenic distillation, absorption, and other separation processes
  • Good understanding of cost estimation for chemical plants and processes and techno-economic analysis
  • Strong aptitude for chemical process R&D
  • Good understanding of catalysis and reaction engineering
  • Hands-on experience with lab, bench, and pilot-scale equipment
